We at Singapore Hospice Council strongly believe that palliative care is everbody's business. Having open and frank conversations, providing resources as the domain expert, being the platform to connect organisations and people for the palliative cause, so that we can all serve the people we serve better, faster. Many thanks to the leaders and organisations who took time off to join us. Friendships and partnerships were formed that day. Really looking forward for these connections to bear fruits. To all leaders out there, be the changemaker! We can all do better to ensure everyone has a good quality of life even in the face of a serious illness and ultimately, a good death. #palliativecare

It started as an idea about getting youths involved and empowering them to be changemakers in palliative and hospice care, a sector more associated with seniors than youths. Hack Care: YOLO! attracted more than 200 students aged 15 to 25 years old from secondary schools, JCs, polytechnics and universities. It was a pleasant surprise and the quality of submissions was truly unexpected. The signing of MOUs with the three polytechnics will help Singapore Hospice Council make more inroads and to prepare the youths for their roles as tomorrow's caregivers and future patients. Very inspired by the ideas using technology, music, arts and things all familiar with youths. Many thanks to Rahayu Mahzam for gracing the occasion and her encouraging words.

Completing 100km to do my part to raise funds for Singapore Hospice Council was the final challenge in 2023. I did about 70km in Dec, doing about 10km each time. Along the journeys, flowers bloomed, roosters crowed, birds aplenty, life was everywhere. Alas, where there is life, there is death. Talking about death and dying is something most people shy away from. But these are necessary conversations. We spend nine months or so to prepare and welcome a birth, a year or more to prepare for a wedding, why not some time to plan and prepare ourselves and loved ones for D-final journey? A new year, a new goal to start perhaps? A huge thank you to sponsors, friends, runners and partners, happy to share that we have raised slightly more than $200,000 through the fundraising campaign #SHCLiveWellChallenge ending 2023 on a most positive note! Special callout to the SHC Staff Team LaoKokkok and ForeverYoung who went beyond their call of duty to support the campaign. #donation #palliative #hospice #deathanddying

Winter Solstice flew by and Christmas will arrive in less than 12 hours. Soon we will herald in a new year. It has been an incredible Year 2023 at Singapore Hospice Council. Most significantly, we expanded the secretariat team and office space, organised the Singapore Palliative Care Conference (SPCC), an inaugural 10-day "Live Well.Leave Well" Festival, launched a new podcast series, a helpline, a paediatrics resource book "When a Child has Serious Illness" and a SHC Home Capacity Dashboard. All these would not have been possible without the support of the palliative care fraternity and friends of SHC. May you and your loved ones be blessed with much joy, love and peace for the season and every day of the new year!#hospice #palliativecare #healthcare

Met many experts and professionals in England, Ireland and Europe over the last two weeks. Singapore Hospice Council shares the same challenges of our counterparts and palliative care/hospice providers worldwide: (1) lack of awareness and understanding of palliative care (2) not having sufficient conversations on death, dying and serious illness (3) access to palliative care too late in the illness trajectory. There is still much work to do to advance awareness and education on palliative care and how it benefits patients and families. If you have experienced the loss of a loved one or been a caregiver; and wish to help others, we invite you to share your journey. I am sure your words will help another person feel less alone in this difficult and challenging journey.#hospicecare #hospice #hospiceawareness #palliativecare #palliative #bereavement #bereavementsupport #caregiver #caregiversupport

Doing my part to raise funds for the Singapore Hospice Council. Tried running in Liverpool for my 100km as part of #SHCLiveWellChallenge. Alas it was just too chilly and had to give it a pass. Having just attended the Hospice UK Conference, it is just amazing to be able to plant SHC's footprint here. It is a daunting challenge for hospices in UK to raise funds to maintain their operations. Only one hospice reported a surplus in last FY. Do donate generously towards Singapore Hospice Council and our palliative care healthcare professionals work to providequality palliative care for everyone! https://lnkd.in/getS3tp5#charity #hospice #palliative
