Description
Spa attendants interact with guests at the reception desk to provide indications and explain the available services in the spa center. They are also in charge of cleaning the spa rooms after use, maintaining storage area cleanliness and restocking clean towels. Spa attendants monitor the security of the facility and are responsible for selling the products and services available such as treatment packages.
Duties
The duties of a spa attendant include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with spa treatments such as massages and facials, monitoring the client’s condition during treatment to ensure safety
- Cleaning and maintaining spa facilities including locker rooms, saunas, pools, whirlpools, and treatment rooms
- Providing beauty treatments such as manicures and pedicures to clients in accordance with the spa’s policies and procedures
- Preparing the spa facilities for use by guests by setting up treatment rooms, arranging appointments, and stocking supplies
- Setting up and maintaining treatment room supplies such as linens, lotions, creams, and oils
- Scheduling appointments and greeting guests upon arrival at the spa
- Welcoming guests and providing them with brochures about the spa’s services and facilities
- Providing clients with luxurious amenities such as towels, robes, slippers, and bath products
- Cleaning and repairing equipment used for massages, facials, and other spa treatments

Working conditions
Spa attendants typically work in health clubs, resorts, hotels, or other establishments that offer spa services. They may work in the locker room, at the front desk, or in the spa area itself. Most spa attendants work full time, and some work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Some spa attendants may be required to work early morning or late night shifts. The work can be physically demanding, and spa attendants must be able to lift and carry heavy objects, such as massage tables. They also must be able to stand for long periods of time and be comfortable working in close proximity to other people.
Minimum qualifications
Most employers require spa attendants to have at least a high school diploma or equivalent. Some employers prefer candidates who have completed a cosmetology program or a similar program that teaches basic skin care and massage techniques.
Most spas will provide on-the-job training for new employees. This training teach them how to properly clean and maintain the spa, as well as how to interact with clients. Spa attendants may also receive training on how to use the spa’s equipment.
