Stairwell Wainscoting (2024)

Stairwell Wainscoting (1)

Hubby and I have been wanting the look of Judge's Paneling on the wall in our stairwell leading to the second story.

To be honest, Hubby is capable of doing this DIY but chooses to just write the check, so-to-speak.

But, before I continue on with this story and the AFTER pictures, I need to bring you back and show you the BEFORE pictures, okay?

Our stairwell is just a regular stairwell with a left turn. It has carpet, white spindles and oak railing and partial oak treads on the spindle side. We would also like to change this but that's another DIY project.

Enter my young and cute, handy dandy handyman, Trent! After all this talk about him throughout my blog, wouldn't you like to see what he looks like? Well you are in luck. He allowed me to take his picture as he was working on the wainscoting.

He is one talented guy and tells me that he can do anything my little heart desires! Now ladies, wouldn't you want your young and cute, handy dandy handyman to say those words to you? I or hubby dream it up and then we call Trent and he comes over and makes our dreams come true. I think he has done something in almost every room in our home over the past five years and there is more he will be doing in the spring, but that will be outside on the house.

I appreciate Trent so much. He tolerates my endless questions as to why he is doing something this way when I think it ought to be done another, or I am just trying to learn what it is he is doing. And he lets me help...a lot. He trusted me to finish this project by doing the prepping, painting and clean-up. Trent is just awesome and if you are in my neck of the woods and need someone like him, I can make that happen for you.

Back to the wainscoting. Trent got it done with chair rail, MDF and glass bead trim and a lot of weird angle cuts. Did I tell you he is a wiz in math? This is where the DIY comes in, I filled the nail holes and sanded, Hubby caulked and I painted one coat of primer and two coats of semi gloss white latex. Now here it is all complete...

See that light switch? Trent had to move it up out of the way of the wainscoting!

You can also see the scalloped border I painted above the pictures. You can go HERE and read more about that.

I think it dresses the stairwell up and gives it more interest, don't you?
